Although Madrid is the capital of Spain, Spain is also well-known for the city of Barcelona, which is home to many beautiful pieces of architecture as well as a successful coastal and marine industry. Barcelona's culture roots back to over 2000 years ago, including entertainment, the performing arts and sports.

One of the most infamous aspects of Barcelona would have to be the sports culture surrounding "football" or soccer. Barcelona has been the host of many sporting events including the 1992 Summer Olympics and the 1982 FIFA World Cup. FC Barcelona is a sports club, best known for its football team, which has won three FIFA World Cups, sparking a nationwide uproar surrounding the sport.

If you're not a sports fan, there is no need to worry. Barcelona has plenty to offer tourists with its picturesque architecture and terrain. The Barri Gòtic or "gothic quarter" is one of several historical sights that can be seen in Barcelona, which houses a multitude of buildings that date back to medieval times. One of the most remarkable sights to be seen is the work of architect Antoni Gaudi, who designed the yet to be finished church of Sagrada Familia, which is scheduled for completion in the year 2026.

So maybe sports and history aren't exactly what you're looking for on your get away vacation. Again, there is no need to fret, as Spain is the jack of all trades with its captivatingly beautiful coasts and beaches. There's over seven beaches in Spain, so you are sure to find one that will satisfy that need for a beautiful day filled with peace and relaxation.

With the abundance of scenery to absorb in Spain, you can't go wrong with visiting the beautiful city of Barcelona to experience the charming, elegant, and breathtaking views of the seaside.
